Workplace violence: Risks, reporting and the importance of understanding both

Program Date/Time: Thursday, April 23, at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. CT

There are different types and varying degrees of workplace violence (WPV) in healthcare, including verbal and physical violence from patients, family members, guests and co-workers. That’s why reporting each WPV incident is so important. By reporting WPV incidents, healthcare leaders can understand this epidemic better and put more policies, processes and protocols in place to help protect the safety and wellbeing of care team members, patients and visitors.

Learn more about the different types of WPV, their risks, and the strategies for assessing, reporting and mitigating WPV incidents. Jennifer Peltzer-Jones, PsyD, RN, Assistant Medical Director of Emergency Behavioral Services at Henery Ford Health, and Liz Boehm, Executive Strategist of the Heart of Safety Coalition, will lead this free webinar and share findings form their respective research.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explore the intersections of the three pillars of care team safety, including psychological and emotional safety, dignity and inclusion, and physical safety.
  2. Understand the different types of workplace violence (WPV) that care team members report, including verbal and physical violence from patients, families, visitors, peers and leaders.
  3. Identify potential solutions, de-escalation strategies and measurements of success
