Vocera Acquires Wallace Wireless

Acquisition builds on portfolio of critical communication solutions.

San Jose, California, January 10, 2011—Vocera Communications, Inc., the leading provider of hospital communication solutions, announced the acquisition of Wallace Wireless, Inc. Wallace Wireless develops software solutions that deliver pages, text messages, and alerts directly to smartphones in a secure, reliable, and traceable way, over both WiFi and cellular data networks. This acquisition complements Vocera’s growing portfolio of breakthrough solutions that improve patient safety and enhance the patient experience by eliminating the communication failures that challenge hospitals every day.

The traditional paging infrastructure is in decline and mobile workers are increasingly relying on their smartphones for urgent information. Wallace Wireless business continuity solutions have been deployed in a wide range of markets to enhance delivery of pages, text messages, and alerts to smartphone devices. In healthcare, Wallace Wireless enables organizations to replace pagers with the reliable, secure delivery of alerts and emergency communication with confirmation of receipt directly to the user’s smartphone.

According to The Joint Commission, communication breakdowns between care providers are the root cause of 65 percent of sentinel events, two-thirds of which have resulted in death.

“Ineffective, incomplete, and inaccurate communication is a daunting challenge for care givers striving to provide the highest possible care,” says Bob Zollars, Chairman and CEO of Vocera Communications. “As a company, we are committed to finding solutions to these points of failure. Each of our four recent acquisitions strengthens our portfolio of products and services that analyze, eliminate, or mitigate these communication failure points and improve the patient experience.”

Based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Wallace Wireless solutions are deployed at more than 200 customer sites across North America in a variety of industries, including healthcare, finance, and public safety, where success often depends on staff being mobile and in constant communication with people, resources, and data.

“Vocera is committed to delivering integrated solutions that address the communication challenges inherent to mobile workforces, such as healthcare workers,” says Rob Moffat, President and Co-Founder of Wallace Wireless. “Bringing our companies together creates enormous potential for improving the seamless delivery of alarms, alerts, and pages, regardless of the recipient’s location or device of choice. And this confirms Vocera as the leader in voice and data communications in healthcare. We could not have selected a partner with a strategic vision that is better aligned with ours.”

The acquisition is the fourth for Vocera since October 2010 including Clinical Health Communications, makers of OptiVox®, Integrated Voice Solutions, makers of VoiceCare, and ExperiaHealth. These acquisitions combined with the rapid growth of Vocera’s patented voice controlled, hands-free communication system provide fuel for continued success.
