Top U.S. Academic Medical Center Installs Teletacking Tranfercenter™ Software

University of Utah system serves more than 10 percent of continental U.S.

Salt Lake City, Utah, November 8, 2010—University of Utah Health Care, recently rated the top U.S. academic medical center by the University HealthSystem Consortium, has installed TeleTracking’s TransferCenter™ software to speed patient transfers and provide specialty care more quickly to those who need it most.

The system, with a service area covering over 10 percent of the continental U.S., selected TransferCenter™ because it is the only software of its type which integrates with TeleTracking’s enterprise-class XT patient flow platform. This capability produces faster referral processing by allowing transfer center staff to quickly locate an appropriate bed.

TeleTracking (www.teletracking.com), the market leader in patient flow automation with over 80 percent of the installed market, added the new application last year in order to offer end-to-end flow solutions to the hospital market.

The TransferCenter™ software streamlines the referral process by reducing administrative tasks, monitoring paging and call activity, collecting accurate patient data and coordinating referral and admitting physicians.

According to Amanda Mosleth, the health system’s director of emergency services, the TransferCenter™ software “was a natural choice since we were already using TeleTracking products.”

“We had a transfer center with a home grown computer solution, but we couldn’t check bed availability or automatically make bed requests in real time without leaving the application,” Mosleth said.
“It was a very easy transition for our transfer center employees,” she said. “They love the new system. It’s easy to use and great for facilitating transfers.”

University of Utah Health Care is a Level 1 trauma center serving Utah, as well as Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, northern Arizona, and western Colorado. The only academic health care system in Intermountain’s West Region, it consistently ranks among the country’s best health care facilities in the U.S. News & World Report‘s ‘Best Hospitals’ survey.

This year it also ranked first in the University HealthSystem Consortium’s annual Quality and Accountability Study, finishing ahead of University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ., Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pa., and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. The annual study compares 98 of the nation’s top academic medical centers and ranks them based on core quality measures, patient safety indicators, mortality rates, re-admission rates and patient satisfaction scores.

About TeleTracking Technologies
Since its beginning, TeleTracking patient flow automation has been converting time into space to help hospitals better utilize their existing capacity. In the process, it has grown from a single bed management application to an entire suite of solutions which address virtually every point identified thus far along the patient flow continuum. The full complement of solutions now addresses patient throughput and overcrowding, asset management, infection control and inter-hospital patient transfer. Separately and collectively, they can enhance efficiency, save cost and generate revenue, all critical benefits in an era of healthcare reform. Most importantly, however, they ensure that the patient gets to the right place at the right time with the right resources for optimal care.
