Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Goes Live with Enhanced EDIMS Emergency Department EHR

New Jersey hospital upgrades ED health IT system to add revenue cycle management as well as improve CPOE and clinician documentation.

Livingston, NJ, March 23, 2010—EDIMS LLC, a leading provider of comprehensive emergency department (ED) information management systems, announced that Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBI) has successfully launched the newly enhanced EDIMS electronic health record (EHR). This significant EHR upgrade at the 673-bed facility includes a revenue cycle management (RCM) module to improve billing and charge capture; an advanced, intuitive computerized physician order entry (CPOE); and more robust, workflow-driven physician and nursing documentation.

“I couldn’t imagine working in an ED that didn’t use EDIMS for its electronic health record. Here at the Beth, EDIMS’ recent upgrade to its full suite of services simplifies our documentation, facilitates communication, and reduces the chance for errors so we can deliver better, safer and more streamlined care to our patients,” said Eric J. Wasserman, MD, FACEP, vice chair and medical director for the department of emergency medicine at NBI, which sees 95,000 patients annually. “We’re particularly excited about EDIMS’ revenue cycle management module, which we expect will boost our revenue by capturing more charges and improving our billing.”

Nurses and patients at NBI began experiencing benefits of the upgraded system shortly after the first phase of implementation in December 2009. “Wait times have decreased significantly and nurses already are spending less time on paperwork and more time with patients because of the improved documentation,” said Debbie Canfield, RN, director of patient care at NBI’s emergency department. “The EDIMS solution is intuitive, so training was a breeze.”

“We are pleased that Newark Beth Israel Medical Center has selected our solutions to help physicians and nurses make more informed decisions at the point of care and advance revenue cycle management to boost the bottom-line,” said Shane Hade, EDIMS’ CEO. “We look forward to continuing to work with the great staff at NBI to drive ED quality, safety and productivity to another level.”
