More Than 5K Nurses Sign Up for Free Burnout Prevention Program

More than 5,000 nurses have signed up for a new free nurse burnout prevention program in which the American Nurses Association (ANA) is encouraging its members to participate.

ANA has partnered with SE Healthcare for the Burnout Prevention Enrichment CenterTM, a web-based platform that offers 24/7 an ever-growing collection of tools and audio and video educational content to help prevent career burnout.

“Recent data indicates that 84% or nurses are experiencing burnout and only 42% feel that their employer values their mental health,” Loressa Cole, DNP, MBA, RN, the ANA’s chief executive officer, said in a video on the ANA website encouraging nurses to sign up. “ANA wants to help our members by making a great resource easily available.”

ANA members, who have been able to take advantage of the program since May 1, 2022, have until June 30 to sign up for complimentary access to the enrichment center through August 31, 2022.

The enrichment center allows each nurse to set up their individualized well-being care plan, as well as earn up to 22 free continuing education credits, Cole said.

The program’s reference library contains peer-reviewed, scholarly articles that support evidence-based interventions, she said.

Indeed, several studies have shown that successful intervention for nurse burnout can lead to improved personal wellness, reduced errors on the job, improved patient satisfaction and safety, lower turnover, higher retention, higher quality of care, and increased sense of well-being.

Some of the instruction includes:

  • How to Reach Out to a Colleague in Distress
  • When Venting is Dangerous
  • Building a Better Day Off

The program also includes an anonymous survey for nurses to share top stressors in their nursing practice.

“We encourage you to participate in this survey,” Cole said, “as ANA will use the findings to advocate on behalf of nurses and drive change at the national level.”
