Healthcare Providers Eye McKesson’s New Release of Information Solution

Horizon Patient Folder Release of Information™ to be showcased at AHIMA 2009.

Atlanta, GA, October 1, 2009 — McKesson has unveiled a powerful new health information  management (HIM) tool to centralize and simplify the electronic release of patient records. Horizon  Patient Folder Release of Information™ is designed to assist hospitals and medical practices of all  sizes with their efforts to increase efficiencies and create revenue-generating opportunities. Currently in  beta trials and set for commercial availability later this year, the solution will be showcased in the  McKesson booth (#603) at the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) annual  convention Oct. 3-8.

“The healthcare IT incentives in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act require that  providers be able to electronically release patient information to receive the government funding,” said  Mark Janiszewski, vice president of product management, Revenue Cycle, McKesson Provider  Technologies. “With this solution, which provides a single system for managing the full patient medical  record, information easily can be released electronically for any patients and any records in the hospital  system.”

The new solution automates many of the manual steps associated with the release of information  process. As a result, medical administrators are able to either bring release of information management  back in-house or significantly streamline their current process, creating the opportunity to generate new  revenue streams.
Already a user of the Horizon Patient Folder document management system, which automates its  HIM department, Clinton Memorial Hospital is looking forward to availability of the new solution to  more cost-effectively and efficiently handle electronic releases across its hospital operation.

“Release of information provides a significant source of revenue for our organization today, and  this new functionality will enable us to dramatically simplify the daunting task of fulfilling requests from  patients, insurers, government agencies, and others,” said Paula Ross, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, manager,  Medical Records and HIM, Clinton Memorial Hospital. “The new solution also will enable us to more  effectively manage the Recovery Audit Contractor program because we will be able to fulfill requests for  multiple patients with a single step and easily release the information electronically.”

Healthcare Providers Eye McKesson’s New Release of Information Solution  p2  “With more than 55 million requests for patient information across the United States each year,  it’s no wonder many medical practices have long opted to outsource this once labor-intensive effort,” said  Janiszewski. “Now, releasing information can be a simplified process and an incremental revenue  generator. As a part of McKesson’s automated document management solution, our new release of  information solution will make managing the process in-house practical for any healthcare provider’s  internal operation and bottom line.”
