Delaware Physicians Create Unique Patient Connectivity Environment

Organization recognizes primacy of physician in transforming health care, engaging patients.

Newark, Delaware, November 2, 2010—The Medical Society of Delaware today announced they have chosen RelayHealth as their solution partner to enhance patients’ participation in managing their health care and to increase efficiency for physician practices throughout the state. As part of the agreement, the Society will provide free personal health records (PHR) to all Delaware residents.

The Medical Society of Delaware made the strategic decision to support health information technologies, such as health information exchange and PHRs, in transforming our nation’s health care system.

“According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, nearly 83 percent of all patient encounters occur in the physician’s office,” said Mark A. Meister, Sr., Executive Director, Medical Society of Delaware. “The primacy of the physician-patient relationship means that physicians are in the best position to have the greatest influence on patient care and the individual choices a patient makes. The Medical Society of Delaware will make available to our members RelayHealth’s secure, electronic tools to help physicians create a more connected experience with their patients. We want to help improve patient access to care, increase patient engagement in their own care, and create efficiencies within our members’ practices. The end goal is to improve health care for all residents of Delaware.”

As part of the agreement, this solution allows physicians to share clinical laboratory results provided by Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) with their patients via secure messaging. Ensuring lab results are easily accessible to both physicians and patients reduces unnecessary phone calls which helps lower costs, enables more timely physician review, and improves care.

“Physicians are the key to transforming healthcare in the United States,” said Jim Bodenbender, President, RelayHealth Connectivity Solutions. “and RelayHealth is proud to support the efforts of the Medical Society of Delaware to improve the health and well being of all Delaware residents.

A “personal health record,” or PHR, is an electronic tool that allows patients to access an online view of their care. RelayHealth automatically aggregates information in the patient’s record through any connected sources, including physician offices, hospitals, pharmacies and the patients themselves.

RelayHealth is a leading provider of patient-centered, healthcare connectivity tools to physician offices.
