CliniComp Intl Selected as Inpatient Clinical Documentation Solution Provider for Military Health System

New contract adds 36 military treatment facilities, significantly expanding current CliniComp system installations for the Department of Defense.

San Diego, CA, September 10, 2009 — CliniComp Intl., a global provider of enterprise-wide clinical documentation systems specializing in high acuity documentation and surveillance, announced today a new contract with the Department of Defense (DoD) to deploy its Essentris® inpatient clinical documentation solution in 36 additional military treatment facilities (MTFs). The new contract more than doubles CliniComp’s current installations for the DoD, expanding the company’s role as the DoD-wide provider of inpatient clinical documentation solutions for the clinical areas of the Military Health System (MHS) across the Army, Navy and Air Force. The Essentris solution deployment is expected to be completed within 18-24 months. CliniComp is currently completing an initial installation under this contract in each of the Army, Navy, and Air Force health services to meet a September 30th Congressional mandate.

“This is the first time an integrated delivery network this large has standardized
throughout all clinical areas on one clinical system,” said Alan Portela, CliniComp chief operating officer. “More than two decades ago, CliniComp was the first to offer an intelligent, inpatient clinical documentation system that delivers 100 percent uptime for complex hospital and health system environments such as those that exist within high acuity care areas, and we continue to deliver high performance, scalable solutions that meet the needs of our commercial and government customers. This award further validates not only our strong performance in our existing installed base within the Military Health System (MHS), but also highlights the continued success in our efficient implementation and deployment processes.”

CliniComp’s Essentris system is a multidisciplinary suite of solutions comprised of intelligent, inpatient clinical documentation; computerized physician order entry (CPOE); and decision support tools for hospitals with both low and high acute care specialties and complex environments including military treatment facilities, academic medical centers and integrated delivery networks. The CliniComp system streamlines clinical workflows and simplifies access to unified patient data. Through this data integration, the company’s technology contributes toward building a true longitudinal patient health record.

Adds Portela, “The Department of Defense consistently leads the industry in technology adoption to ensure delivery of high quality care and patient safety. Many commercial health systems will be looking to them for guidance as they follow the steps outlined within the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) for EHR and supporting healthcare technology deployments.”

“With CliniComp’s commitment to providing secure access to vital patient data across the MHS’ complete care continuum, this award moves the DoD one step closer to realizing a comprehensive approach in the care delivery for our wounded warriors,” says Portela. “As a company – and as a country – we want to continue to support and improve care for our wounded warriors. With CliniComp as the standard for inpatient clinical documentation across the MHS, we are ready and able to ensure that the medical records of wounded warriors accompany them from the battlefield to the hospital to their safe discharge.”
