ASHRM Marks Healthcare Risk Management Week: June 18-22

The American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) hosts its annual campaign to raise awareness about the critical role risk management and patient safety professionals play in helping to eliminate preventable serious safety events. Throughout HRM Week, June 18-22, ASHRM is offering solutions that risk managers and patient safety experts can employ to help prevent some of the most common serious safety events, many of which are aligned with the Hospital Engagement Network (HEN) Initiative.

To help spread the word about the value that healthcare risk managers provide to organizations and patients, ASHRM is offering a new, complimentary communications toolkit in support of HRM Week. Toolkit materials include:

ASHRM is also hosting a webinar: Why Children’s National Reduced Serious Safety Events by Nearly 80% and How You Can Too. Children’s National’s experience demonstrates that there is great potential in driving down preventable harm by combining process improvement with behavioral and human factor driven change. In other words, an empowered nurse or doctor, or even environmental service worker has a significant capacity for communicating and responding to his or her environment in a manner that improves reliability of performance and reduces the risk of missteps or patient harm. Children’s National refers to that potential as the “Power of One” – the collective effort that will help “Get to Zero” but will happen one individual, one leader, one organization at a time. In addition, go online to take the ASHRM HRM Week 2012 Interactive Quiz for a chance to win prizes. The quiz tests your healthcare risk management skills. Click here to get started.
