The theme for the 2011 NPSF Congress is “Sharing Accountability and Responsibility in Pursuit of Patient Safety” and preliminary track topics were developed through a series of brainstorming calls that were open to the field. In alignment with the theme, the breakout session tracks will be organized around accountability and responsibility across the healthcare landscape.

Abstracts will be considered in the areas of:

Shared Decision Making and Accountability between Patients and Providers? This track will be looking for best practice models for shared decision making and how enhanced communication between patients and providers assures safety and accountability.?
Health Care Informatics: Achieving, Supporting, and Sustaining Accountability in the Virtual Environment? This track will address how electronic health records (EHR) can enhance and detract from patient safety and accountability, explore new regulations about meaningful use, and create a common language using EHR for reporting back to PSOs.?

Health Care Reform and Accountability?
State and federal regulators continue to be mindful of the need to reform the healthcare system. This track will address the impact of economic and procedural reforms that are intended to drive performance improvement.

Statistics show that there are an ever increasing number of patients receiving care in multiple settings. This track will focus on methods to coordinate care across the continuum and how those structures can maintain accountability.?

Teamwork and Communication for Enhanced Accountability
?Lapses in communication remain the number one root cause of adverse events. This track will share models of best practices that improve handoffs, promote teamwork and reduce hierarchy.

We are now building our roster of expert faculty and invite you to submit a speaker abstract for consideration by the NPSF Congress Planning Committee.
