Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare: News
HRET Accepting Applications for Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship

November 29, 2007 The HRET Fellowship program is a yearlong intensive learning experience focused on improving the organizational approach to and impact on patient safety. This program uses a dynamic, highly participatory, and structured learning community to develop leadership competencies and advance quality improvement science in health care. Fellows are exposed to a broad array of tools, strategies, and methodologies in the field of quality improvement.
HRET is now accepting applications for the Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship program. Take this opportunity to apply now, or nominate colleagues, by visiting http://www.hretfellowships.org/.
HRET Fellows are change agents within their organizations. Fellows gain new skills, tools, and leadership capability to better engage staff and clinicians to create cultures of safety and provide highly reliable care.
An investment in the HRET Fellowship reaps significant returns for both individuals and organizations. Through the fellowship, hospitals and other healthcare organizations gain:
- Fast and sustainable organizational change
- Project coaching by nationally recognized faculty
- Staff trained with new skills to undertake future mission critical initiatives
- Extended opportunities for learning through a network of more than 800 alumni
- Savings in time and money due to faster project implementation, more effective results, and less reliance on external consultants
The Fellowship brings participants together through:
- Executive Leadership Retreats Three weeklong gatherings during the course of the program.
- Virtual Learning Community Year-round communication with other fellows and expert faculty.
- Fellows can also tap into a rich learning network, take advantage of peer consulting, and participate in self-study modules. As a result, your organization develops lasting resources.
To apply, potential fellows propose an Action Learning Project, a quality improvement initiative within the Fellows' organization that becomes the heart of the Fellowship experience. Each Action Learning Project focuses on advancing health care quality and outcomes and is designed to create more cost effective models of care delivery.
Organizations can send individuals or teams to participate in the HRET Fellowship. Sending a team of leaders to participate in the Fellowship is the most effective way to integrate and sustain the work of Fellows within your organization. Hundreds of Fellows have participated in teams, making their learning process rewarding and more transferable across the organization.
"I'm not alone in my journey toward changing a culture anymore. Not only do I now have a network of colleagues across the country who are struggling with the same issues, but I have vast resources to tap into when I confront barriers."
