Taking Patient Safety to the Next Level

CCD Health Systems acquires industry-leading risk management software.

CCD Health Systems has acquired the industry leading software assets previously owned by Medical Risk Management Associates, (MRMA). These software tools guide and teach healthcare professionals how to conduct a thorough and credible Root Cause (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (HFMEA®).

This important acquisition will allow CCD to offer their clients a more robust solution to process improvement and patient safety:

  • RCA will allow the user to conduct a retrospective study of an adverse event, identify multiple root causes and systematically prioritize corrective actions.

  • FMA will support a prospective analysis of systems and processes by identifying potential failure modes, as well as risk scoring and ranking of corrective actions.

  • AEMS will interface with both the RCA and FMA applications to collect, filter, and aggregate critical incident data.

"After more than a year evaluating available process improvement software, we believe the RCA and FMA products are the most advanced solutions for the health care industry — built specifically to address the requirements of both JCAHO and CPSI. We are pleased to offer additional tools to improve patient safety to our more than 300 facilities currently utilizing our AEMS product," said Nevil Ghadially, sales manager, CCD.

CCD will retain the expertise of MRMA's team of practicing risk managers, compliance officers, healthcare attorneys, and physicians who have organized to continue providing consulting and training. "Our shared philosophy of the critical importance of patient safety is the primary reason MRMA has chosen to divest ownership of our RCA and FMA software to CCD," according to Denise G. Osborn, JD, principal, MRMA.

"The principals of MRMA believe strongly that our software tools, when used in conjunction with the CCD Health Systems' web-based Incident Reporting Application (AEMS) will equip healthcare professionals with the only integrated solution to provide enhanced quality of care through process improvement," said Dr. Ken Hirsch, MD, Phd, co-founder, MRMA.
