Innovative Fellowship Opportunity in Emergency Medicine Administration

USC and Emergent Medical Associates announce 2nd year of Fellowship program.

Los Angeles, CA, October 1, 2007 — Emergent Medical Associates ("EMA") and the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Keck School of Medicine at USC have announced that they will continue to offer their Fellowship in Emergency Medicine Management and Administration. This unique one-year fellowship provides for an intensive curriculum and exposure to the most important aspects of ED Administration and Management. The Fellow receives voluntary faculty status in the LAC+USC Department of Emergency Medicine. This Non-ACGME fellowship includes a Masters in Medical Management (MMM) from the USC Marshall School of Business and a special curriculum designed by EMA for the fellow.

"The first year of the Fellowship has been an unprecedented success," said James Edwards, CEO of EMA. "Our inaugural fellow, Dr. Tina Wu, has exceeded our expectations, enthusiastically capitalizing on every opportunity we put in front of her to learn the administrative and management skills that will make her successful in community medicine."

"I feel fortunate to have been selected for this fellowship," said Dr. Tina Wu, USC / EMA's first Administrative Management Fellow. "Having the chance to work with the leaders in community and academic emergency medicine combined with the Degree in Medical Management from USC's Marshall School of Business provides a comprehensive educational opportunity matched with practical application. I am gaining skills in a year it will take my peers 5-10 years to learn."

"We are very excited about this fellowship," said Ed Newton, Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at LAC+USC Medical Center. "Our partnership with EMA, a clear leader and innovator in the field of Emergency Medicine, is another step in forwarding our commitment to preparing the best physicians to deal with real world situations. Dr. Wu is living proof that this program will help create the future leaders of Emergency Medicine."
