Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare: Business News
University Hospitals to Implement Eclipsys Sunrise Clinical Manager

Eclipsys Corporation announced that University Hospitals (UH), Cleveland, OH, has contracted for Sunrise Clinical Manager and its fully integrated modules, including Sunrise Acute Care, Sunrise Ambulatory Care, Sunrise Emergency Care, Sunrise Critical Care, Sunrise Pharmacy, and Knowledge-Based Charting.
Consistently ranked among America's best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, UH is the leading healthcare delivery system in Northeast Ohio with 150 locations throughout the region. An interdisciplinary team of UH physicians, nurses and senior management selected Eclipsys after an extensive analysis of other clinical information solutions.
"This contract with University Hospitals is among the largest software contracts in the company's history and is particularly gratifying as Eclipsys won this business over a number of our major competitors," said R. Andrew Eckert, Eclipsys president and chief executive officer. "We look forward to forging a close relationship with such a respected healthcare organization as University Hospitals. As we begin working together to implement Sunrise Clinical Manager, our common goal will be to deliver a system designed to help UH clinicians achieve positive patient-safety outcomes as well as improved quality of care."
Using Sunrise Clinical Manager's single clinical platform, UH will connect its physicians, nurses, pharmacists, other clinicians, and administrators, enabling patient information to flow easily from ambulatory and Emergency Department settings to critical care and other acute care venues. In addition, UH clinicians will use Sunrise Ambulatory Care to provide high-quality patient care and improve the patient experience in its outpatient settings through a single electronic health record (EHR). UH clinicians will now have a comprehensive overview of patient data, including both inpatient and outpatient orders, results, documentation, medications and allergies in a single view to easily see the full patient picture and make efficient, informed decisions about the care patients need.
