CCHIT Names New Commissioners

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) has named 10 new commissioners and re-nominated three existing commissioners to serve staggered two-year terms on its 21-member board beginning in October.
A Nominating Committee consisting of the founding partners of CCHIT and three independent members solicited applications and received more than 70 submissions. The Committee completed its work and the new members were announced at the Sept. 18 board meeting.
Led by Chairman Mark Leavitt M.D., Ph.D., the Commission oversees the work of CCHIT's professional staff and voluntary work groups. The roles of the Commissioners are to represent a broad array of stakeholders, provide strategic direction, ensure objectivity and credibility, provide guidance to and review the reports of the work groups, and approve the final certification criteria and processes.
The Commission is made up of at least two representatives each from the provider, payer, and vendor stakeholder groups, and at least one from seven other stakeholder groups, including safety net providers, health care consumers, public health agencies, quality improvement organizations, clinical researchers, standards development and informatics experts and government agencies.
The new Commissioners are:
- Richard Atkin, President, Misys Healthcare Systems;
- Andrea Gelzer, M.D., Senior Vice President, Clinical Public Affairs, CIGNA Healthcare;
- Jeffrey Hillenbrand, Chief Operating Officer, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare;
- Christopher Macmanus, Senior Vice President, Information Technology & CIO, Catholic Health Initiatives;
- Denni McColm, Chief Information Officer, Citizens Memorial Healthcare;
- James Morrow, M.D., Vice President and Chief Information Officer, North Fulton Family Medicine;
- Jonathan Perlin, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President for Quality, HCA;
- Don Rucker, M.D., Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Siemens Medical Solutions;
- Michael Ubl, Director, IT Strategy & eHealth, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota;
- Andrew Wiesenthal, M.D., Associate Executive Director, Clinical Information Support, The Permanente Federation.
Three Commissioners were reappointed to new two-year terms. They are:
- Jane B. Metzger, Research Director, Emerging Practices, First Consulting Group;
- Wes Rishel, Research Director, Gartner, Inc.;
- Andrew G. Ury, MD, Chief Executive Officer, Practice Partner, Inc.
