National Conference on Quality
and Patient Safety: November 16-18
in Chicago
Building systems within health care organizations that protect lives and improve health outcomes is a major concern for health care leaders today. Meeting these challenges is the focus of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and Joint Commission Resources' 20th Annual National Conference on Quality and Patient Safety.
The 2006 National Conference, "Decisions That Count," set for Thursday through Saturday, November 16-18, at the Westin Michigan Avenue Chicago, will highlight best practices for leadership to create cultures of quality and safety improvement within their organization.
Featured speakers include Carolyn Clancy, M.D., director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), who will discuss how clinicians and patients can make more informed choices about treatments in "Crossing the Chasm: Connecting Research and Practice to Improve the Quality and Effectiveness of Health Care." Dennis S. O'Leary, M.D., president, Joint Commission, will explore what it takes for leaders to break through barriers to improve patient safety and health care quality. Longevity expert, physician and best-selling author Michael Roizen's presentation, "Getting the Best Treatment," will conclude the first day of the conference.
Dr. Roizen, co-author of "You: The Smart Patient" in collaboration with Joint Commission Resources, will share many of the concepts in his book and discuss how they can help health care leaders work more closely with patients to deliver safer care. In addition, the day will include a special recognition ceremony and reception for winners of the 10th annual Codman Award, honors bestowed by the Joint Commission to recognize excellence in the use of outcomes measures to achieve health care quality improvement.
2nd Annual Emergency Preparedness Conference, October 19-20,
Washington, DC
Disasters always hit at the worst times, often without warning. After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, what vital lessons are left for hospitals to learn? What crucial preparations haven't already been made? What hospital isn't already on-call for anything?
Every health care organization must closely examine and periodically re-evaluate the risks it faces and how it would respond to catastrophe. To help you prepare for a worst-case scenario, the Joint Commission and Joint Commission Resources have joined forces with OSHA and the American Red Cross to develop the 2nd Annual Emergency Preparedness Conference, Disaster Readiness on the Home Front, a timely, important event, scheduled for October 19 - 20, 2006, in Washington, DC.
This conference's in-depth, holistic approach to disaster readiness will help you develop a comprehensive and efficient emergency management plan. Through the insight shared by our expert presenters, you will be prepared to assess the likelihood of various disaster scenarios in your setting and formulate a practical response plan. Conference highlights also include:
- A special focus on natural disasters by geographic regions Special sessions help you prepare for hurricanes, earthquakes or tornados
