Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare: New Products
Exploring Safety, Quality, and Financial Viability

Increasing public expectations regarding accountability, transparency and pay-for-performance have health care trustees and executives searching for better ways to advance safe practices in their hospitals. With these realities in mind, how can leaders meet their oversight responsibilities for quality, patient safety, strategic planning, financial oversight, and medical staff relations?
Two fall leadership conferences sponsored by Joint Commission Resources (JCR) aim to provide health care trustees and executives with strategies and tactics to effectively perform these duties. Ensuring Safety, Quality and Financial Viability: The Role of Leadership will be held September 26-27 in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, and October 27-28 in Arlington, Virginia. JCR, a leading educator on quality and patient safety, is an affiliate of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
The conferences will open with a session focusing on ensuring that health care leaders are ready to help their organizations meet tomorrow's quality challenges. Other topics to be explored at the conferences include:
- Board Responsibilities in Overseeing Patient Safety and Quality specific techniques and best practices to ensure that management and medical staff leadership promote safety and quality.

- Trustees and Patient Safety explanation of Joint Commission leadership standards that promote systems success, plus discussion of how new aspects of the standards will significantly impact the governing body, medical staff and hospital governing teams.

- High-Performing Boards strategies for raising the bar not only in quality and safety, but in financial performance, customer services and market position.

- Patient Safety Case Study examples from leaders from Memorial Health System, Springfield, Ill
