Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare: Product News

Sfax™, the first EFR™
for Health Care

Electronic fax record streamlines the transition to EMRs with digital signature and annotation features.

Austin, TX, January 31, 2008 — As the most expensive health care system in the world struggles to reduce costs, U.S. health care providers consider adoption of EMRs (electronic medical records) which are said by experts to be capable of saving the industry billions of dollars. Providers are slow to act on implementation of EMRs when faced with hefty upfront costs, not to mention extensive behavioral and workflow changes necessary to providers' practices in order to implement. A small, Texas-based health care information technology company has developed a progressive solution and offers a first step that could cut costs and time significantly for providers looking to embrace EMRs. SecureCare Technologies of Austin, Texas is launching its Digital Signature and annotation features for its flagship product, Sfax™, the first and only EFR™ (electronic fax record) for the health care industry.

With the addition of the Digital Signature and annotation features, Sfax now operates as a truly paperless, Internet-based fax management system for health care providers and serves as a seamless transitioning agent to EMR platforms. Being the first EFR, Sfax recognizes the importance and abundance of faxing in health information exchange and facilitates a manageable transition to EMRs, with over 14.9 billion faxes being sent and received between health care providers annually. With Sfax, there will be no need for users to scan every manual fax into their EMR systems as documentation will already be electronic.

"Up to 80 percent of a patient's chart comes into a physician's practice from outside the office primarily via manual faxing methods," said CEO Dennis Nasto. "With Sfax and the launch of our Digital Signature and annotation features, health care providers can save up to 95 percent of the time and up to 80 percent of the cost of manual faxing. As more providers consider the move to electronic medical records (EMRs), Sfax will speed the adoption rate as a majority of that record will already be in an electronic format. This will eliminate one of the biggest challenges associated with converting old paper records to electronic records."

The Digital Signature feature provides every user with a true digital certificate, allowing a provider to digitally sign each fax from a secure, HIPAA-ready platform. This feature saves health care providers significant amounts of time that would be spent scanning and printing faxes in order to physically sign them. Special annotation features allow users to edit faxed documents with tools such as check marks and text boxes without ever printing a single page.

SecureCare Technologies will launch the Digital Signature and annotation features for Sfax™ Feb. 12, 2008 in a Webcast which can be accessed at the company's Web site, www.sfaxme.com. CEO Dennis Nasto will be available the day of the Webcast for media interviews which can be requested by calling: 512-215-4452.
